INSPIRE
A few weeks ago, I had a collage evening with a girlfriend - no end goals in mind, just the chance to play. And after seeing The Madame B album, I realize this desire is not new. Never intended for public viewing, The Madame B Album is a Victorian woman’s personal collage art project; bound in leather and lovingly crafted with images of her friends and families. It is so thoroughly modern in it’s playfulness and whimsy, I love the idea that creativity for it’s own sake has always flourished.

UPHOLSTER
New to us is a fabric line called Yarn Collective. They focus on using natural or recycled raw materials - which feels like it should be a requisite now. This cotton velvet is everything I love about velvets, quietly lustrous, soft to the touch and prone to beautiful marking that all patina-obsessives welcome. And the color? Pistachio? Please.

BUY THEN EAT
If a vegetarian visits me in LA, I always take them to Girl and the Goat. Stephanie Izard excels at creating truly dynamic, satisfying dishes (many vegetarian friendly) with global influences. And what I love most, and is an important distinction: her food isn’t a fusion, it’s inspired. And because I can’t financially sustain going there every day, her line of sauces will hold me over between visits :) My favorite is This Little Goat Went to Hong Kong.

LISTEN
I saw this band, Tengger, recently and I cannot shut up about it because it was borderline spiritual. First of all they’re a family - wife and husband and child - Korean and traveling the world sharing their dreamy droney expansive music. Dad on electronics and keys, mom doing vocals harmonium and bells, son on keys bells and vocals. Mom and son also dance. Beautiful sea-view videography throughout. Listen listen listen.

The world’s obviously falling apart around us, and in these times I try to focus on what we can keep together, like our mental health. A wise birdie turned me on to Open Studio, located in Venice but I haven’t been. Instead, I use their online platform for guided breath-work classes that are short, effective, and get me feelin a lil high…. not a bad thing at all.

PORTFOLIO REVIEW
These days I’m drawn to architecture that is quiet. That helps me breathe easier. Always snoopin around, I came upon the work of Didone Comacchio Architects, specifically via this photo, which I can’t get out of my head. I know this is too bare for most but hear me out; there is s p a c e … for air to move, for light to rake and shadows to cast, for people to do their thing, freely. You and your activity are what’s in the room, rather than a bunch of parked stuff. For me, there’s just enough well-executed detail and wood to save it from starkness.
