Browsing the gift shop at Neue Galerie in NYC, I was struck by, and subsequently purchased, a poster for the exhibition of Madame d’Ora aka Dora Kallmus. d’Ora was an Austrian photographer, and the first woman to establish a studio in Vienna in 1906. Her life story is pretty wild; she photographed the greats of the time, like Josephine Baker, Colette, and Gustav Klimt, and worked with Cristobal Balenciaga. Although I didn’t see her exhibit, I’m glad for the serendipitous stumble upon.

Transporting and soothing home tour of a beach house in Sydney, Australia by Winter Architecture. I’m getting more out of video tours than stills lately - in this case it does the house justice. Mjolk is selling curly grey sheepskins from Gotland, Sweden. Draped on a seat (as in photo), these communicate warmth, safety and coziness like a fireplace. If you have a dog, they will never not lie on this.

Rodarte’s RTW Fall 2023 show knocked me off my feet with it’s Gothic Fairytale theme. Intricate black lace paired perfectly with shimmering sequins and overly scaled sleeves that reminded me of my beloved sky dancer toys (that ended up getting recalled). The movement and sparkle is best seen on video.

Sophie Buhai has masterfully mined Art Deco for her inspired jewelry, accessory and object designs. I identify her as a major contributor to the resurgence of this style. Her objects are my favorite; silver toothpick and toothpick coffin? flask with jade top? magnifying glass necklack?? All are clever, sleek and low-key glamorous. This new pill box is “Sterling Silver and Lemon Beryl. For your vitamins your Xanax or your Advil…” Cheeky.
