“Perfect Days” - my kinda film. So subtle and slow, it’s almost boring, but only if you’re a passive viewer. Once you do the work, you will be rewarded and come to understand the main character’s raison d’etre. Insane cinematography, all filmed in the incomparable city of Tokyo, which is the second best thing after actor Kōji Yakusho’s performance, which, wow. Brace yourself for the last scene.

This project by Paris based architecture firm Florent Chagny came across my feed, and I am captivated by the concept of this hospitality-seeming bar in a residential space. It’s actually a brilliant foil to the open-concept kitchen, in that it still feels inviting to walk up to, and an ingenious way to add dimension in small spaces against what would otherwise might just be a wall cut-out.

I’m in the middle of this, but I recommend it anyway. In the form of diary entries, we gain entry to the point of view of octogenarian artist, Anne Truitt. Given that much of her oeuvre consists of minimalist sculptures, columnar and painted one or only a few colors, it’s quite the counterpoint to hear her detail what she had for lunch or how her doctor’s appointment went. Intellectual, but accessible and poignant.

The glass and copper Esmal Console, designed by Florence Louisy, caught my eye at æquō gallery’s PAD Paris presentation. Fresh on my radar, æquō is a collectible design gallery focused on highlighting Indian craft heritages through contemporary projects. The vibrancy of the console and use of these materials in a new functional, sleek form really excite me. Plus, I get the sense it’s more versatile than at first glance.

While I was waiting for my dad to use the restroom at a museum in Rome, I was dawdling in the book section of the gift shop and fate magnetically drew me to a book of photography. Then I saw the work in person this past weekend at AIPAD. It has affected me so much that I have become possessive? But I’ll be nice and share the photograper: Laura Letinsky. Her photographs are still life’s, a favorite category of mine, with arrangements of food scraps, packaging and detritus, in a mesmerizing high key color palette.

This week I found myself wholly intrigued by the 400-year-old farmhouse in Royston, Hertfordshire owned by the creative polyglot, Mark Brazier-Jones. Brazier-Jones design sensibilities were borne through his experiences as a music video set-designer for David Bowie, mechanic, ceramicist, and furniture designer. I admire his bold use of color, fearless self assurance, and unflinching eye for objects of true interest. As he told The World Of Interiors: ‘I suppose I think of interior design as a kind of theatre - with the right lighting and props, one is able to enchant, intrigue, seduce.’
